Spotting means determining when a subtitle appears on the screen and how long this subtitle remains visible. How much space our translators have for their translation depends on this. When we translate and subtitle a programme ourselves we do the spotting and the translating at the same time. Although the best final result is always achieved if one person does the translating and spotting concurrently, a customer sometimes already has a translation of a programme. In that case we just do the spotting, whereby, where necessary and in consultation with the customer, we adapt the translation here and there in order to improve readability of the subtitles. |
