OUD BELGIË (Old Belgium)

At the request of the Eyeworks production company, The Subtitling Company provided the English and French subtitles for Oud België, a series about the decline of the variety show written by Stany Crets and Peter Van den Begin, who also played the two main characters.

MEISJES (The Over The Hill Band)

Meisjes, the new film from A Private View, the production company behind Aanrijding in Moscou (Moscow, Belgium), was released in Belgium on 19 August 2009. The film tells the story of a seventy-year-old woman who once sang in a band and who wants to take to the stage again. Her son Sid is prepared to help her do so, on condition that the band performs ‘his’ music. Meisjes is a comedy drama starring Lucas Vanden Eynde, Jan Van Looveren and Lea Couzin, among others.

The Subtitling Company provided the French and English subtitles for this film.

DE HELAASHEID DER DINGEN (The Misfortunates)

The film based on the book of the same name by Dimitri Verhulst was directed by Felix van Groeningen and is Belgium’s entry for the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film. De Helaasheid der Dingen was also the opening film at the Ghent International Film Festival.

In the film we meet thirteen-year-old Gunther Strobbe who lives with his grandmother, together with his father and his three uncles. Gunther grows up in an environment where poverty, alcoholism and aggression prevail. Will he eventually manage to escape this dysfunctional world?

The Subtitling Company subtitled De Helaasheid der Dingen in French and English.

LOFT

LOFT, the thriller by Bart De Pauw and Erik Van Looy that attracted a cinema audience of 1,186,000 last year in Belgium, thus breaking the record set by Koko Flanel 19 years ago, is available on DVD, VOD and Blu-ray from 15 September.

LOFT is not only the first Flemish film to be brought out on Blu-Ray, it is also the first Flemish film available with audio description for the blind and visually impaired and special subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
